Aït Benhaddou is a fortified settlement in the central-southern part of Morocco. The location of the town between Marrakech and Ouarzazate enabled its development – it was situated on the caravan route and brokered in commercial transactions. The exact date of the foundation of the settlement is not known, however, the fortress has been located in this very place for at least five centuries. This impressive historic village, which lies at the foot of the High Atlas mountains, was the setting of many film productions. Some scenes of the popular series Game of Thrones were also shot in the historic Moroccan fortifications.
