Ang Thong National Marine Park is located in the south-east of Thailand on the Gulf of Thailand. It comprises 42 islands and covers 102 km2, of which only 18 km² are land. The full name of the park is Mu Ko Ang Thong. Mu Ko means “a group of islands”, whereas Ang Thong refers to a “bowl of gold”. The park was established in 1980 and has been very popular among tourists since the very beginning of its existence. Despite the fact that the nature of Ang Thong is strictly protected, tourists visiting the park may make most of the natural richness of that region. The authorities of the park offer fast boats rides, diving in clear waters surrounding the archipelago, climbing in the mountains where tourists may admire lush tropical vegetation, and camping in the bosom of nature.
