Bali is one of the Indonesian islands located in the archipelago of the Lesser Sunda Islands. It is known mainly for the unique culture of its people – the Balinese people created original folklore and art, and even their own religion – Balinese Hinduism. Weaving is a very important field of crafts for the inhabitants of the island – Balinese fabrics are unique not only because of their design and beautiful colors. Even today they are manufactured with the use of traditional methods with hand-produced yarn and dyed with natural substances, which is primarily symbolic. The fabrics are in fact used by the Balinese during various rituals and religious ceremonies, so they must be manufactured according to the old ways – it is believed that their power depends on the way they are produced.
