Easter basket with eggs and a funny lamb
In Christian tradition a lamb is the incarnation of Jesus Christ, who died crucified by the Romans in order to redeem his followers. It is a very old symbol with a deep meaning, but modern mass culture has annexed it for its own commercial purposes. The lamb is less and less similar to its iconographic original and becomes – next to chickens and bunnies – one of Easter mascots. The lambs appear in funny and comic versions, on postcards, as interior decorations or on packaging of grocery products.
