City hall in Belgrade (Serbia)
The capital of Serbia – Belgrade is one of the oldest cities in Europe. As early as at the beginning of the 16th century the city had been conquered by the Ottoman Empire and it became the Serbian capital in 1878. The 20th century was the period of historic turbulences for the whole region of the Balkans, however, Belgrade is again the capital of Serbia since 2006. The architecture of Belgrade which depicts the traces of various influences and periods is the witness of Belgrade’s complicated history.
