Bergen is the second largest city of Norway, located in the region of Hordaland. The port and its neighborhood have been the busiest parts of the city for centuries. The district of Bryggen (Norwegian: wharf) is the most representative part of the city and is on the UNESCO list for World Cultural Heritage sites. There are characteristic colorful buildings – old Hanseatic merchant houses. The district used to be an important trade center, at present it is frequently visited by tourists. There are lots of souvenir shops, restaurants and cultural institutions situated at the wharf. Wooden city’s housing and closeness of the busy port make the city attractive for long walks.
