Big Sur is the region in the state of California, which is frequently visited by tourists due to wonderful landscapes. Its name originates from the Spanish words “el sur Grande”, i.e. the great south. In 1919 the decision was made to build a road that would interconnect this picturesque region with other parts of the state. In result of this undertaking 33 bridges were built, including the Bixby Creek, which is best known and most photographed. It is 218 meters long and 85 meters high. The Bixby Bridge was the setting of many advertisements, films and TV series, it appeared also on postcards, post stamps and various promotional materials.
