Brasov (Romania)
Brasov is a city in central Romania with an extensive old town and numerous monuments that date back to the 14th and 15th centuries. The settlement was founded by the Teutonic Knights in 1211 and at the turn of the 19th and 20th century came under the rule of Hungary, for ten years (1951-1961), Brasov was known as the City of Stalin. There are numerous religious monuments in the city, including the Orthodox Church of St. Nicholas, the 14th-century Black Church and synagogue from the early 20th century. Brasov has also retained the historic part of the city walls with towers. The Polish painter Theodore Axentowicz was born is this city
