Panorama of Budapest at dusk (Hungary)

Budapest is the city that was created in the 19th century from the merger of two cities situated on the opposite banks of the Danube river. Even before the merger it was commonly called Pest-Buda. Such a sequence was meant to emphasize the superiority of Pest, which was the capital of Austro-Hungary at that time, whereas Buda was the seat of the monarch. Both cities were extremely rich, full of beautiful architecture, parks and bulwarks. The cities were merged in 1872 and they became one of the most beautiful capitals of Europe and it is no wonder that Budapest is called the Pearl of Danube. Among the best known historic monuments of the city it is a must to mention the building of Parliament, Royal Castle, Andrássy Avenue and Basilica of Saint Stephen.
