Teutonic Knights Castle in Malbork (Poland)
The Teutonic Knights Castle in Malbork is a three-part - consisting of three castles: low, medium and high - fortress built in the gothic style. It is one of the largest preserved units of gothic architecture in the world. The initial name of the castle, used by the Teutonic Knights Order, was Marienburg (Maria's stronghold). Since 1309 to 1457 the castle in Malbork was the residence of the Grand Master of the Teutonic Knights, and the town was the capital of the Teutonic Knights State. Since 1457 to 1772 the castle was the residence of the Polish Kings. At present there is a museum in the castle. In 1997 the fortress was listed on the UNESCO World Heritage Site List.
