Cologne is a large city in the western part of Germany. Its history dates back to the Roman times. Cologne is situated on the river Rhine and the Hohenzollern Bridge spanning the two banks of the river is one of the city’s landmarks. The bridge had been opened in 1911 and after World War II it was rebuilt. In the immediate vicinity of the Rhine there is the Köln Hauptbahnhof, i.e. the main train station in Cologne, and the Gothic Cathedral of Saint Peterwith two distinctive, 157-meter towers. Their soaring, openwork spires are visible from afar and are the landmark of Cologne.
