The Swiss city of Fribourg with the medieval Old Town and the remains of city walls lies on the river Saane. The Gothic cathedral of St. Nicholas, with a characteristic 74-meter bell tower the construction of which has never been completed, is one of the most valuable historic monuments of Fribourg, the city that was founded in the twelfth century. The temple was being erected in the years 1283-1490. Its interior is decorated with beautiful stained glass windows made by Józef Mehoffer, one of the leading artists of the Young Poland movement. Miniatur of Saint Nicolas Cathedral in Fribourg can be found in Swissminiatur in Melide.
