Chestnuts are the angiosperms that belong to the family of beech trees. In Europe and Asia edible chestnuts are the most common species. After cooking or baking their hard, brown fruits have consistency similar to potatoes, their taste however, is similar to the one of sweet nuts. In Poland, the word chestnut usually refers to the fruit of a chestnut tree that belongs to the soapberry family. They provide food for wild animals. They are also used in medicine and cosmetics industry. After removing their green, spiky shell, chestnuts can serve a decorative function.
