The neo-gothic Elizabeth Tower is one of the most recognizable symbols of London. The ornate building with clock dials was designed by Augustus Pugin, the dials are set in a frame that is seven meters in diameter. The clock was completed in 1859. Its steel-framed faces have two hands that measure time very precisely, nevertheless, over the past seventy years the mechanism has failed several times. Previously, this London tower was simply called Big Ben, but in 2012, on the 60th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II, it was officially named Elizabeth Tower.
