Colorful buttons
The oldest discovered buttons are made from shells and are five thousand years old. They were excavated in the valley of the Indus river, in Mohenjo-daro. Most likely there were used as a part of jewelry - a kind of ornaments attached to clothes. It was only in 13th-century Germany when buttons became popular as items used in a way that is common today. In the next decades buttons were widely produced in Europe. In the first half of the 19th century there was a fashion for meticulously crafted, decorative and often very valuable buttons. Currently plastic, metal, wood or glass buttons are produced in countless sizes, colors and shapes, but more and more often they are displaced by zippers. There are people who collect buttons as a hobby.
