Global sugar production is constantly growing as well as its consumption. The fact that people love sweet taste is conditioned by evolution. Before we learned to hunt and grow grain our diet consisted largely of fruits and the sweet taste was a clear signal that a given specimen is ripe and can be eaten safely. Over time, we introduced meat, flour dishes and dairy products to our diet, but we are still looking for sweets as our favorite type of food. This is due to the fact that after eating sweets our body begins to produce hormones that put us in a good mood and the centers of pleasure and reward are activated in the brain. However, you must remember that the joy of eating sweets is short-lived and excess sugar has a negative effect on our health.
