Dehesa
Dehesa is a multi-hectare, artificially cultivated agro-forest area on the Iberian Peninsula (in Spain and Portugal). The total area covered by the dehesa is estimated at four million hectares. A significant part of the dehesa is occupied by pastures, what is more, within its limits there are also oak forests from which important natural resources are obtained (fire-wood, corks from cork oaks, mushrooms). The establishment of the dehesa is related to the activities undertaken by the governments of the Iberian Peninsula, which were meant to stop the migration of the rural population to cities and to develop a modern agro-forest economy.
