Southern coast of Portugal is called Costa Durada, which means "Golden Coast". The name originates from the color of sand and rocks that are characteristic for the areas by the Atlantic Ocean. The coast of the Algarve region is one of the most popular among tourists. High rocky cliffs, sometimes even 100 meters high, are characteristic for sandy beaches there. Due to geographical conditions and marvelous views climbing is very popular in the are – for many people it is the main reason to come to Algarve.
