Fishing is a very important branch of economy, not only for Greece, but also for other countries of the Mediterranean Sea. Only in the countries of the European Union there are 90 thousand fishermen. They work on board of 40 thousand vessels, which clearly proves that looking for large ships in that branch of economy would be in vain. This surely results from the fact that the Mediterranean fishing is not only treated as employment, but also as a lifestyle that has significantly influenced the shaping of culture of many seaside regions. It is worth remembering that fishing has blossomed here since the birth of settlement in these mountainous regions as conditions for agriculture are not very encouraging.
