The fog bell of Chersonesos (Ukraine)

The sound of the Chersonesos bell used to warn ships when the visibility was poor. It was cast in 1778 from the captured cannons, after the Russo-Turkish War. Chersonesos Taurica is the ancient Greek city, at present located within the administrative boundaries of Savastopol (Ukraine). Nowadays, the city ruins are made accessible for the tourists as a archeological reserve. Chersonesos was the place of the symbolic baptism of Rus in 988.
