Dubrovnik, the city and port on the Adriatic Sea in Croatia, surrounded by a network of fortifications. This network, almost 2-kilometer long, belongs to the oldest and best-preserved in Europe. The fortifications consist of 5 bastions, 17 towers, two forts and one stronghold. The construction of the walls began in 8th century and it was finished in 16th century. The system of fortifications in Dubrovnik is made accessible for tourists. From the St. John’s fortress there is a beautiful view on the city and its surroundings.
