Freiburg im Breisgau is located on the west side of the Black Forest mountain range, in the south-west of Germany. The city lies on the river Dreisam, near the border with Switzerland and France. Freiburg im Breisgau is known for the Cathedral of Our Lady with the 116-meter tower and a distinctive openwork spire, the 15th-century university, as well as the Renaissance Merchants Hall with corner turrets and intensely red facade. The city boasts a beautiful old town and the representative Cathedral Square.
