Genoa is the capital of Liguria and the largest seaport in Italy. The city has developed due to its convenient location on the Mediterranean Sea as an important commercial center. This is where Christopher Columbus and Niccolò Paganini were born. Using a traditional funicular railway tourists may travel to the hill, from which they can admire both the panorama of Genoa and the nearby fortifications of Forte Castellaccio from the 19th century. A ride on a small red car is a big attraction. It runs every 15 minutes.
