Gerberas are beautiful decorative flowers of the Asteraceae family originating from South-East Africa. The name of the plant comes from the name of Traugott Gerber, an 18th-century botanist. The most popular is the greenhouse variety of gerberas, because their round, colorful flowers in the cut form are often part of bouquets. The plant can also be grown in a pot and its leaves are said to have air-cleaning properties. Baskets of flowers consisting of many narrow petals open in the morning and close in the evening.
