Hallstatt is a small village located in Upper Austria on Lake Hallstatt. It boasts the necropolis from the 8th century BC and the world’s oldest salt mine, which can be now reached with a cable-car. In the 18th century Hallstatt witnessed the discovery of prehistoric corpse that had been perfectly preserved in salt. The charming triangular market (Marktplatz), surrounded by colorful tenement houses, situated in the center of the village is also worth noticing. There is also a 19th-century Evangelical church with a characteristic pointed tower that is depicted on most of postcards with the panorama of Hallstatt. In Huizhou, in the Chinese province of Guangdong, a kitschy replica of this mysterious Austrian village was built.
