Mechelen is a Belgian city located between Antwerp and Brussels on the Dyle River. Due to its location, the settlement developed mainly because of trade. This is recalled by the historical part of the wharf called Zoutwerf, i.e. Salt Wharf. In the past, boats were unloaded here and goods were stored in warehouses. Today, tourists can admire historic houses of merchants and craftsmen on the left bank of the river, as well as modern brick and glass buildings. The surroundings of the canal are often visited by walking tourists.
