Jinli Street in Chengdu (China)
Chengdu is a large Chinese city and the capital of Sichuan province in the central-western part of the country. This modern metropolis inhabited by several million people has no traditional Old Town or too many monuments. However, near the Temple of Wuhou there is Jinli Street, which has retained the atmosphere of ancient times. Over the heads of passersby there are hundreds of characteristic red lanterns, which illuminate the promenade after dark. When walking along Jinli Street visitors may stop at one of many local taverns serving local specialties, listen to folk music, or admire local handicrafts and street theater performances.
