Helsingborg is a Swedish port city located on the Øresund strait. Long and rich history of the settlement is reflected in the fourteenth-century Kärnan tower, which is a remnant of a large defense fortress. The monumental medieval building is a landmark of the city and one of the most valuable monuments in Sweden. Inside the tower there is a museum, which offers a permanent exposition, as well as educational activities for children and guided tours. Kärnan is also a popular vantage point – it is worth climbing 146 spiral steps to admire the old city from the top.
