King Charles Spaniel is considered to be a dog of aristocracy. The name of the breed itself supports that point of view. Spaniels were popularized in Europe as early as in medieval England by the kings Henry VII and Henry VIII. A bit later Charles II Stuart and Maria Stuart fell in love with these dogs too. Up to this day there is a decree issued by Charles II stating that the royal spaniels are not obliged to obey the entry ban to public institutions.
