City of London is the financial district of the capital of Great Britain. In the first years of the 21st century, a few modern skyscrapers surpassing those in the city were erected in the very center of London. Due to its characteristic shape, 30 St Mary Axe remains the most recognizable of them. This 180-meter high skyscraper, colloquially called "gherkin", was designed by Norman Foster. The conical structure and double elevation made of glass allow to reduce the consumption of electricity inside the building. The edifice houses the headquarters of the Swiss Re insurance company.
