Its name, connected with the cult of the Mother of God Queen of Angels, the city owes to the founders - Spanish missionaries, who arrived in California at the end of the 18th century. The high rate of crime caused that the city has its equivalent in the computer game about the gangs' fights - Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.
