Manitoulin is the world's largest island on a lake. It lies in the northern part of Lake Huron in Canada. The island was inhabited for centuries by Native Americans, but in the 17th century the diseases of European origin decimated the population. It was only in the 19th century when several reservations were created on the island and the conditions for settlement by the colonists from Canada were established. They left behind typical buildings. The sawmill near the town of Sheguiandah is among the most interesting ones. It was built in 1879 and it was in the possession of the Batman family, due to that fact it is sometimes called the Batman’s sawmill. Today you can admire its precise replica, which was built in the 1970s.
