Monastery in ruins of Petra (Jordan)
Petra is an ancient city in ruins, located in the south-west of Jordan. The ruins are located in a rocky valley which is accessible only by one narrow path. Petra is known for numerous structures hewn in rocks. One of them is Deir, that is Monastery. Its name dates back to the Byzantine period, when a Christian monastery was located at this place. The monastery is a beautiful, impressive and majestic construction, which was built probably in 1st of 2nd century A.D.
