Monte Carlo is a district in the Principality of Monaco, the city-state located in southern Europe on the Mediterranean Sea. Monte Carlo is situated on a hill the slopes of which are gently dipping towards the bay on which there is a port for yachts and private boats. Monte Carlo is the synonym of wealth and luxury – it is also a historic capital of gambling. The first casino in Monte Carlo was opened in 1862, however, it started bringing profits only after the development of the railway, connecting Monte Carlo to the rest of Europe. Today the Monte Carlo Casino is the most famous establishment of that type in Europe. Many film creators and writers set the plot of their creations in the city. The James Bond series is obviously among the best known films.
