Porto, also known as Oporto, is the Portuguese city on the river Douro, which flows into the Atlantic Ocean at this point. The Old Town of Porto was declared the UNESCO World Heritage Site. The oldest buildings located in Porto come from the Middle Ages. Some of the high apartment buildings towering over the narrow streets of the center are empty. Residents of Porto are moving to the suburbs, while the Old Town is still full of tourists. The Douro River Valley is also the home of the world-famous Portuguese wine called Porto.
