Rothenburg on der Tauber is located in Bavaria in the west of Germany. The town is known as the example of a perfectly-preserved medieval German town. The old town is full of old timber-framed tenement houses with pointed roofs, which are decorated with characteristic small towers. The building of an old town’s smithy is among the most frequently visited attractions. The building had been completely destroyed during the air raid in 1945, but the local authorities decided to rebuild and reproduce it in the original shape. Its former glory was recreated in 1951, thanks to which tourists may admire a magnificent example of traditional Bavarian architecture. The tourists’ attention is mostly drawn by the soaring spire supported on arcades, conical roof and heraldic symbols placed on the walls.
