Old Town in Graz (Austria)
Graz is a historic city located in the south-eastern part of Austria at the foot of the Alps. The city’s history is over a thousand years old and dates back to the time when these territories were occupied by the Slavic tribes. The name of the city comes from the Slavic word gradec, meaning a fortress. Graz is the capital of Styria, which is one of the most visited tourist regions in Austria. The region owes its popularity to beautiful high mountains, historic monuments and cultural attractions. There is the oldest Austrian museum in Graz, the entire old town is inscribed on the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites. What is more, the city was the European Capital of Culture in 2003.
