Honolulu is the largest city of the American state of Hawaii as well as its capital. It is situated on the O’ahu island. Honolulu was founded in 1816 and it has been the capital of the state since 1845. It is also a port city and an important tourist centre with one of the most famous world beaches – Waikiki – the military base Pearl Harbor is situated near the beach. Today Honolulu is a modern city with a well-developed tourist, social and educational infrastructure. Thanks to modern air communication the islands are visited by millions of tourists annually.
