Les Invalides is a monumental Paris temple erected in 1706 by order of the Sun King, Luis XIV. Its height is over 105,16 m. The church has a characteristic copula that is visible from a long distance, which was renovated in 1989 with the use of 12 kg of gold (the epitaph of Napoleon I Bonaparte that is carved underneath says: "This copula is a helmet for a head of a giant. Rest in peace"). Initially the building was meant exclusively for the use of Luis XIV (it was meant to be the burial place of the royal family). However, after king's death and the French Revolution these plans were changed; in Les Invalides the remains of Napoleon I Bonaparte were buried. Military achievements of Napoleon were depicted in the form of his Victories that were carved in the church’s marble floor (Austerlitz, Jena and others). Apart from Napoleon I the church is also the burial place of marshal Ferdinand Foch, Napoleon II and others.
