Victoria is located in the west of Canada on the island of Vancouver and is the capital of British Columbia. A huge building of the British Columbia Parliament crowned with a majestic dome is located in the immediate vicinity of the port. The Neo-Baroque edifice designed by Francis Rattenbury was put into use in 1897. It is surrounded by manicured lawns with numerous monuments, fountains and flower beds. The Parliament can be visited with a guide throughout the year. After dark the building is illuminated by several hundred bulbs, which gives a unique effect.
