Philadelphia is one of the biggest and most prosperous cities of the USA, which is reflected in its architecture. As early as at the beginning of the 20th century, thanks to the use of new technologies, skyscrapers of steel and concrete were being constructed. Until the 1980’s the city was also building higher and higher constructions of glass and granite. There are over 40 buildings that are higher than 100 meters in Philadelphia. The highest skyscraper in the city (and in the state of Pennsylvania) is the Comcast Center, which is almost 300 meters high. The building was completed in 2008 and it owes its name to the company called the Comcast Corporation, which is its main user.
