Plumeria is a tropical plant originating from Central America with large, beautiful flowers emitting an intense aroma that attracts pollinating moths. Plumeria bushes can be found mainly on the Pacific islands, in a moderate climate its potted variety is cultivated. Traditional flower garlands and wreaths called Lei are made of plumeria flowers in Hawaii. In Polynesian culture this plant symbolizes love and respect, whereas in the past it also had religious significance. Thanks to its unique fragrance plumeria is used as a perfume ingredient.
