According to most theories, the dog's ancestor is a wolf. It is possible that coyotes and jackals also participated in the formation of canine species. Wild animals, gradually domesticated by humans, were initially used to help hunt and transport their possessions. Then the dogs began to accompany shepherds and guard human places against intruders. Currently, the dog is primarily a four-legged member of the family – a friend, a companion of long walks and a pet to play with.
