Roman Forum with the Temple of Saturn (Italy)
The Roman Forum, the most important square of ancient Rome, was built at an initiative of Lucius Tarquinius Superbus. In the south-western part of the Roman Forum, i.e. the market of Rome, the remains of the Temple of Saturn are situated. The building was erected probably at the turn of the sixth and fifth centuries BC and housed the state treasury. The sanctuary was dedicated to the god of sowing and grain, who was also the patron of the annual Roman Saturnalia. A massive colonnade of the temple has survived to our times.
