Bruges, which is also called the Flemish Venice due to the presence of canals, is a picturesque city located in Belgium. Bruges has been cultural, artistic and commercial centre for centuries. The Flemish school of painting originated here: various masters such, as Hans Memling and Jan van Eyck lived and worked in the city. Bruges has partially retained its medieval architecture and in the historic part of the city in the neighborhood of the canals visitors may feel as if the time has stopped there. The 13th-century Belfort belfry towers over the main square and offers a magnificent bird’s-eye view of the city’s panorama. It is worth climbing 366 steps to admire that view.
