Manhattan is the most famous borough of New York as well as the landmark of the city and widely recognizable symbol of metropolitan life and Western prosperity. It is located on a small island on the Hudson River. The name of the borough comes from the language of the indigenous Indians and means the island of many hills. Today this poetic way of describing the borough can be interpreted in relation to the skyscrapers that define the character of this part of the city. Manhattan is one of the most crowded places in the world, although it is not overpopulated. Mostly wealthy financiers and the representatives of New York bohemia live here. However, millions of people still come here every day to work and in the most important places there are thousands of tourists flocking to see the landmarks.
