Puppies that have just been born need constant supervision and careful care of the owner. New-born dogs cannot see or hear, but they feel the mother's warmth and gather around her, most of the first days of their life devoting to sleep. Over time, they begin to crawl and react to more and more stimuli from the environment, then they play, run and learn new things. However, in spite of this, puppies will need regular naps for a dozen or so months to quickly revive lost energy. Sleep is essential for a young dog to develop properly and remember all the information acquired during the hours of learning about the world.
