Small Tortoiseshell is a large butterfly with characteristic orange wings with yellow, black and white spots. Around the edge of the wings there are blue reflections. Stinging nettle or hop are the host plants of small tortoiseshell. The butterfly wakes up from hibernation in March, if the temperatures are high enough. Nevertheless, it is easiest to see the butterfly around July. Several other species of butterflies from the family of Nymphalidae closely resemble the small tortoiseshell. These include Large Tortoiseshell and Nymphalis Xanthomelas.
