St. Charles Boromeo's Church (Austria)
St. Charles Boromeo's Church in Vienna is one of the most magnificent Baroque temples in Europe, founded in 1713 by Charles VI after the last of many black death epidemics, which swept through Austria. The church's patron, St. Charles Boromeo, was the archbishop of Milan in the times of black death epidemic in 1576. The church’s construction, began in 1716 in accordance to Johann Bernhard Fischer von Erlach's design, was finished in 1737, which is 14 years after the architect's death. The church was erected on the plan of ellipse combined with a Greek cross. The columns on both sides of the portico serve the function of bell-towers.
