The High Tatras is the highest part of the Tatra Mountains, which is located in Poland and Slovakia. Štrbské Pleso Lake, the second largest body of water on the Slovak side of the High Tatras, is situated at an altitude of 1346 meters above the sea level. This glacial lake is surrounded by forests, recreation centers, hotels and sanatoriums. The lake covers an area of nearly twenty hectares. The lake was artificially stocked with fry in the 19th century. It is towered by Solisko Ridge.
